Renowned in her home country of Cuba, Daymé Arocena is a charismatic vocalist who deftly navigates between jazz, Afro-Cuban folk influences and neo-soul. Having begun her musical journey playing piano, violin and guitar, as well as singing, Arocena is a versatile musician and inspired bandleader. Central Coast jazz fans may recognize her as a key player in saxophonist Jane Bunnett’s Juno Award-winning Maqueque ensemble and Arocena has since gone on to work on the globally collaborative Havana Cultura Mix – The Soundclash! album. She also lists a diverse group of artists as collaborators, from jazz pianist Roberto Fonseca to rapper Kumar. Her 2015 debut album Nueve Era was hailed by NPR as one of the top 50 albums of the year and solidified her role as an innovator of Cuban music.
